The combination trial

Hair counts after a GHK combination

There is a positive human finding here. Its ingredients deserve to stay together.

Men with androgenetic alopecia

A six-month trial in 45 men with androgenetic alopecia tested a complex of 5-aminolevulinic acid and glycyl-histidyl-lysine peptide. The trial reported statistically significant hair-count gains versus placebo, with p<0.05, and no adverse events in any group. Androgenetic alopecia is patterned hair loss.

I welcome the measurable endpoint and the human setting. I also give the complete preparation its credit: this trial tested a combination containing GHK. The finding cannot isolate GHK’s contribution, and the preparation is different from the copper complex in the collagen-culture study.

An interesting result becomes more useful when its limits of attribution remain visible. There is room to investigate which component, interaction or property of the preparation contributed to the reported outcome. The trial’s positive finding gives that investigation a concrete reason to happen.

What the safety observation contains

No adverse events were reported in any group in this trial. That is worth retaining alongside the favourable count result. The observation belongs to the tested preparation, the enrolled men and the trial’s duration. It cannot settle every safety question about another preparation or another route.

A larger follow-up addressing durability and repeating the outcome with the preparation closely specified would be especially interesting. That wish goes beyond the finding on this page. Durability remains a question for a further human trial.

Attribution and mechanism

Nothing about the gene-expression survey lets me deduce this trial’s outcome in advance. The broad pattern and the measured hair count are interesting for different reasons. Connecting them would take more than a shared name.

I end up valuing the human trial for its own question: did the tested combination change the count relative to placebo? It reported a favourable answer. That precise sentence carries enough interest without borrowing every proposed property of GHK.
